Ipswich Town are interested in signing Cork native Chiedozie Ogbene before Friday night’s transfer deadline, according to reports.
Ogbene joined Luton Town from Rotherham United on a free transfer last summer and the former Cork City and Limerick attacker impressed during his first season in the Premier League, despite their relegation.
The Republic of Ireland international scored five goals in 39 games in all competitions and was the second fastest top-flight player after Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven, having clocked 36.93kph against Fulham last September.
Should Ogbene join Ipswich, as the BBC are reporting, he will link up with a strong Irish contingent as Northern Ireland’s Kieran McKenna has already brought Sammie Szmodics, who scored his first ever Premier League goal last weekend against Manchester City, and Dara O’Shea to the club recently.
The Tractor Boys also signed Liam Delap – son of former Ireland international Rory – this summer while winger Marcus Harness declared his intention to represent the Boys in Green back in July 2019.
