Blackpool manager beat Nigel Clough and 4 others to win Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month for September

The following people have been named September’s Sky Bet League One Manager and Player of the Month winners:

Bruce Steve (Blackpool) Steve Bruce, the manager of Blackpool, has been named the September Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month.

Having won Championship Manager of the Month on several occasions, Bruce applied his knowledge and expertise to great effect in Sky Bet League One, winning his first four games at Blackpool without using complicated strategies and letting his new players express themselves.

Bruce said: “This award is deserved-recognition of how well the team has done since our arrival here last month.

“It has been a hectic opening few weeks since I joined the Club, with matches every three or four days in the opening few weeks. The players have done incredibly well to pick up our ideas and apply them to the matches so quickly, and we’ve got to be pleased with the start we have made.

“We need to do more of the same over the coming months if we want to be successful, and I’m confident we have a strong enough group who can continue to push on this season.”

Danny Wilson chairs the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month judging panel.

He said: “What a great start for Steve and his new club in September, where they collected a perfect 12 points from 4 games. That wealth of experience he has certainly reaped its rewards for the club and their fans.”

Sky Sports’ EFL pundit Don Goodman said: “Blackpool were the standout team in League One and what a job Steve Bruce has done at turning their form around. It was a perfect month that saw them collect maximum points, including a win at Huddersfield, welcome back Brucie!”

“It’s great to see the former Manchester United captain back in management,” stated Ivor Davies, a Sky Bet EFL dealer. “He’s made an immediate impact with his new Blackpool side, guiding them to four league wins from four in September.”

This is the first occasion in the history of the team that Blackpool has won their first four league games under a manager. “The Tangerines were plainly struggling in 22nd position in League One without a win when Bruce was appointed, and they were given a 9/1 chance to get promoted. Their odds have decreased to 4/1 a month after their flawless September, and they are currently ranked 10th in the leaderboard.
