85% DEAL: Ipswich Town finally handed personal terms boost over £6m Blackburn Rovers deal

Premier League new boys Ipswich Town are in discussions about a potential move for Sammie Szmodics.

That’s according to TWTD, the dedicated Ipswich outlet that has seen their team make a number of promising additions during the early stages of the summer transfer window.

Considering they have seen a number of first-teamers depart in recent weeks, as well as the fact they need to make the signings required to give themselves the best chance of remaining afloat in the Premier League beyond the end of next term, it’s no major surprise that they have been active in the market.

Omari Hutchinson was their first signing, with the wide player making a permanent move from Chelsea.

Ben Johnson has also joined and yesterday, they secured the signing of Jacob Greaves from Hull City.

It doesn’t look as though they will be able to get a deal over the line for Jaden Philogene too, but there’s plenty of time left before the start of the 2024/25 campaign for them to make further additions.

Having targeted a couple of EFL players already this summer, it’s no shock that they are back in that market to try and get another deal over the line.

It has been reported that they are in discussions regarding a potential move for Blackburn Rovers star Szmodics, who was exceptional during the 2023/24 campaign, with his goals keeping John Eustace’s side in the Championship.

A deal in the region of £6m, plus add-ons, is thought to be under discussion.

This information is according to TWTD, who believe it shouldn’t be an issue for the Tractor Boys to agree personal terms with the player.

Ipswich are long-term admirers of Szmodics, having eyed a move for him in the past couple of windows.

And following their promotion, they may now be in a strong position to get a deal over the line for the 28-year-old.

Rovers are in a strong negotiating position with Szmodics.

The striker still has two years left on his contract and with Rovers having the option to extend his deal for a further 12 months after that, £6m doesn’t seem to be a sufficient figure.

He was such a prolific figure last term and if Rovers lose him for anything less than an eight-figure fee, that won’t have been good business.

Rovers could spend £6m wisely, but they should be looking to secure a lot more for Szmodics’ signature, even with potential add-ons in mind.

From Ipswich’s point of view though, this could be an excellent deal.

With Kieffer Moore departing following the end of his loan stay and Freddie Ladapo potentially set to move on before the window closes, more quality and depth is definitely needed.

Ali Al-Hamadi could also benefit from a loan exit, so the Tractor Boys should be looking to address their striker department as a matter of urgency.

Szmodics could be an excellent addition, but they may also require more firepower, even after he potentially signs.
