GOOD BYE: Ipswich Town to send 21-year-old out as Scottish clubs keen

Ipswich Town goalkeeper Cieran Slicker has loan interest from Hibernian and Kilmarnock, as per The Scottish Sun.

Ipswich Town are heading up from the Championship and their squad is set to go through a big transition as they gear up for Premier League football.

Kieran McKenna will want to show faith in the key men who have starred in their stunning back-to-back promotions, but there are sure to be several departures from Portman Road too.

Those on the fringes of the Tractor Boys’ squad could make way, be it on permanent or temporary deals.

Now, The Scottish Sun claims one man poised to head out is goalkeeper Cieran Slicker.

They report that Ipswich Town will send 21-year-old Slicker out on loan this summer, and he’s already drawing interest. Hibernian and Kilmarnock are among the Scottish Premiership clubs with an interest in the former Manchester City prospect, it is claimed.

Best for Slicker?

Scottish prospect Slicker didn’t make an appearance for the Ipswich Town first-team in his first season with the club but at 21, the time has come for him to taste more senior action.

He’s got two years left on his contract at Portman Road and as a promising young player, it seems like the right move to let him out on a temporary basis.

Slicker can develop into an asset for the Tractor Boys in the years to come and will likely harbour hopes of breaking into the side further down the line.

But, for the time being, the former Rochdale loan man might be best out on loan. A stint in Scotland could do wonders for his development and he might be able to pick from a few options north of the border amid interest from the likes of Hibernian and Kilmarnock.

McKenna’s goalkeeper options

Vaclav Hladky and Christian Walton are both currently ahead of Slicker in the pecking order.

Walton was the star in between the sticks as Ipswich Town rose from League One but after being cast to the sidelines by injury early in the 2023/24 season, he was unable to reclaim his place in the team with Hladky playing a vital role in promotion.

Looking to next season though, a new ‘keeper is wanted. Carl Rushworth has been heavily linked, so there could be another change in between the sticks as Premier League football awaits.

With a goalkeeper on the radar, Slicker will be pushed further down the ranks if he stays, so he could find a loan spell away in a bid for regular minutes.
