Ipswich Town CEO Mark Ashton stressed that keeping hold of boss Kieran McKenna is ‘the best signing the club will make this summer’ following the announcement that the 38-year-old has penned a new four-year deal with the club.
Blues fans were relieved as well as overjoyed yesterday when the club confirmed the Northern Irishman, who has taken Town to the Premier League following back-to-back promotions, will remain at Portman Road after weeks of rumours linking him to club’s elsewhere in England’s top flight.
Speaking to former Blues midfielder Matt Holland on Town TV, Ashton said: “Success brings it’s own challenges, and I think it’s been a very long time since this football club has had this level of success.
“You look probably back to Sir Bobby (Robson) as the last time a manager left this football club as their own choice.
