Jack Clarke, a winger for Sunderland, is scheduled to have a medical on Friday, August 23, before moving to Ipswich Town, sources have informed Football Insider.
The Black Cats took a bid after Ipswich met their £20 million asking price for their star player.
Both clubs have now reached a comprehensive agreement, and the player has agreed to personal terms.
Leeds United and Southampton showed a late interest in the 23-year-old, as Football Insider reported on August 22. However, Ipswich moved swiftly to complete a deal.
Kieran McKenna’s plans for his position at Portman Road convinced Clarke, and he made a return to the Premier League his top priority.
After his career at Tottenham stalled and he made just four appearances while spending four stints away on loan, Clarke moved to Sunderland in 2022.
But since moving to the Stadium of Light, he has made 114 appearances, contributing 23 assists and 28 goals.
Though their failed attempts at promotion last season made the winger reevaluate his options, he is still seen as an integral part of Sunderland’s push for promotion.
Over the past year, his time with the Black Cats has drawn a lot of Premier League interest. Crystal Palace and West Ham are two of the teams keeping an eye on him.
But Ipswich, having just been promoted, persuaded him of their bold plan and stability under McKenna’s leadership.
The manager has strong support in the transfer market because he inked a new, long-term contract earlier this summer.
Clarke will now permanently relocate to Portman Road, joining highly regarded actors Omari Hutchinson, Jacob Greaves, Liam Delap, Sammie Szmodics, and Arijanet Muric.
