Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has called for the addition of a second assistant coach following the departure of Fernando Da Cruz. Da Cruz, who joined the Chiefs alongside Nabi from ASFAR, left for a lucrative role with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FMRF). His exit leaves Khalil Ben Youssef, Nabi’s former analyst at Young Africans, as the sole assistant on the technical team.
Nabi expressed the need for more help, stating, “Why not? It’s possible, all is possible… because I have too much work, too much of a job, only with one assistant, it’s not [easy].” The coach acknowledged that while the situation is manageable for now, the club received a formal letter confirming Da Cruz’s departure to Morocco, prompting Nabi to consider his options.
Arthur Zwane’s return: Speculation vs. reality
Despite widespread speculation about a possible return of former head coach Arthur Zwane to fill the vacant assistant role, Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jnr has firmly dispelled these rumours. Motaung Jnr clarified that Zwane, currently serving as the Senior Academy Coach, is not expected to rejoin the first team. This development forces head coach Nasreddine Nabi to look elsewhere for the additional support he needs, as he continues to explore other potential candidates to strengthen his technical team.
Potential new addition: Burundian coach
The search for a new assistant coach has led to rumours that Burundian coach Cedric Kaze might join Kaizer Chiefs. Kaze, who previously worked with Nabi at Young Africans, could bring valuable experience and a proven track record to the team. Sources suggest Nabi is keen to reunite with Kaze, who was expected to join the Chiefs last year had the initial deal gone through.
Chiefs kicked off their 2024/2025 Betway Premiership campaign with a solid 2-1 victory over Marumo Gallants. Despite this successful start, Nabi’s reduced technical staff and the potential arrival of a new assistant coach highlight ongoing adjustments within the team. The addition of Kaze could provide the support needed to strengthen the technical team and enhance the club’s performance throughout the season.
Kaizer Chiefs will finalise their coaching staff and continue their push for success in the Premiership. Stay tuned with The South African for more updates as the Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi tries to secure a new assistant.
