Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly considering offloading midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa during the January transfer window.

The 30-year-old has not made an appearance this season under coach Nasreddine Nabi. With players like Njabulo BlomEdson Castillo, and Yusuf Maart preferred in the midfield, it seems unlikely that ‘Ox’ will play regularly, if at all, this season.

Chiefs are said to have paid R10 million to sign Mthethwa on a three-year deal from Stellenbosch FC just over a year ago. Last month, he played in 18 league matches for Kaizer Chiefs, but it appears he may be included on the January transfer list.

According to Mgosi, a decision has been made to release the midfielder.

“A decision has been made to cut ties with Mthethwa, but because the club paid a lot of money to Stellenbosch when they signed him last year, they won’t release him for free. They will put him on the transfer list and hopefully, they will get a buyer for him,” said the source.

Kaizer Chiefs put star on January transfer list?

At the age of 30, Mthethwa won’t be attractive for top teams. Amakhosi might need to sell him way less especially to top teams. Mgosi’s insider did mention that the ‘Ox’ won’t come cheap.

“He’s a quality player so I’m sure he won’t be short of suitors, but I don’t think Chiefs will get back the amount they spent on him when they bought him from Stellies. Remember, he was a Bafana player then and didn’t come cheap,” he said.

Kaizer Chiefs are set to loan out a few players during the January transfer period. Mthethwa still has a running contract with Chiefs that is set to expire in June 2026, so the club might loan him for six months before selling him.
