Former Kaizer Chiefs left-back Tsepo Masilela has explained why Keagan Dolly has struggled to find a club since leaving Amakhosi.
The 31-year-old winger was released by Chiefs at the end of last season and is now without a club. He was assessed by SuperSport United in July, and despite passing his medicals, the club opted not to sign him.
Masilela believes Dolly is struggling to find a club due to his perceived salary of R1 million he earned at Kaizer Chiefs. The ex-Bafana Bafana man has since clarified the false reports that he was earning over a million a month during his stay at Naturena
“I think when you are coming from a team like Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Orlando Pirates, the first thing that comes to their (teams) minds, is that this guy was earning a lot of money,” Masilela said on SoccerBeatZA.
“Before they even approach you, they have already made conclusions that this guy will need a lot of money only because you were playing for Chiefs, it happened to me after leaving Chiefs, I had to stay for a couple of months.
Masilela on why ex-Kaizer Chiefs captain Dolly is clubless
“For Keagan (Dolly), there were talks that he was earning over a million at Chiefs and he said that all those numbers were wrong. So it put pressure on him as a player, like how people and his teammates look at him,” Masilela added.
“Now it’s tough for him to find a new club because people think he was earning that much and he would need a lot of money. It’s tough in South Africa, once you are over 30 and have played for the big teams it’s tough to get a new team,” he added.
Keagan Dolly joined Kaizer Chiefs from France in 2021 but his time at the club was halted by injuries.
