Kaizer Chiefs defensive midfielder Sibongiseni ‘Ox’ Mthethwa is plowing again after Nasreddine Nabi gave him a chance this season.
The 30-year-old was not used in Amakhosi’s opening six games but made a surprise start against Richards Bay last week. The Ox retained his place in the starting line-up against Royal AM this past weekend and has impressed his coach.
“I think this time “Ox” [Sibongiseni Mthethwa] understands his role. We worked together on his negative points,” said Nabi.
“Ox” worked hard to improve the negative points. If he works hard, he will progress. He took his chance and worked for his chance. Same with all players. I congratulate Ox for his performance.”
Kaizer Chiefs coach Nabi happy with OX
Despite their impressive win against Richards Bay, Amakhosi failed to tighten their defence against Royal AM after going two goals up. The Soweto giants conceded two goals in the second half which resulted in a draw thus losing two points
“It’s how many opportunities we were missing, and after those 25 minutes of the first-half,” Nabi said after Chiefs’ draw.
“We felt that everyone was playing for himself. What was happening on the field was unacceptable. That’s what the speech was about because we missed a lot of goals, and even during half-time in the change room, that was just the speech.”
Kaizer Chiefs are in action this weekend against Polokwane City and Nabi knows a win is needed to build confidence. A win could take the Glamour Boys into third place in the Betway Premiership.
