The story was all over. Kaizer Chiefs were linked with Asanele Velebayi from Cape Town Spurs all winter. Why did the deal fail?
KAIZER CHIEFS AND ASANELE VELEBAYI
Following two rejected bids to sign the 22-year-old winger over the past month, SABC Sports’ Mazola Molefe said that the two clubs were still in talks on Thursday ahead of deadline day on Friday night at 23:59.
“Cape Town Spurs and Chiefs remain in talks over Asanele Velebayi,” Molefe said in a short report.
WHY THE DEAL FELL THROUGH
Speaking to the media after the transfer window was closed, Spurs chairman Alexi Efstadiou explained the details.
“There was interest from three different clubs locally and there was interest from overseas as well but the overseas ones I think were more difficult and more speculative than the local ones.” Efstathiou told iDiski Times.
“I would say mostly verbal, if you want to call it a serious offer, the one that came in writing from Kaizer Chiefs probably a month ago which we declined as it was substantially lower than the asking price.”
GEORGE MALULEKA LOOKING FINDS NEW TEAM
Remember George Maluleka‘s football at SuperSport United, Ajax Cape Town, Kaizer Chiefs, and briefly at Mamelodi Sundowns? The Tembisa-born midfielder is still active.
Following his exit from AmaZulu in June, the 35-year-old is joining Mpumalanga’s Kruger United in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
“Former AmaZulu midfielder George Maluleka is set to join Kruger United,” iDiski Times reported.
“Maluleka, 35, has been without a club since the expiry of his contract with Usuthu and has now agreed terms with the newly promoted Motsepe Foundation Championship side.
“He’s set to sign a one-year deal with an option to extend, as he looks to add valuable experience to the squad that’s currently in ninth place after their first three games,” the report added.
ITUMELENG KHUNE JOINS SABC SPORT
Kaizer Chiefs legend Itumeleng Khune has secured a new job while his future with Amakhosi remains uncertain.
SABC Sport have confirmed that the Amakhosi legend has joined the public broadcaster as an analyst.
“We will also be enhancing our coverage by strengthening the analysis team. This move will ensure that we provide insightful commentary and in-depth analysis for our viewers,” SABC Group CEO Nomsa Chabeli said, as quoted by the Hollywoodbets.
“The added new members to the team are Itumeleng Khune, Jabu Mahlangu as well and Coach Thabo Senong who will be joining our resident analysts Doctor Khumalo, Simphiwe Dludlu, and Hlompho Kekana in the studio.”
IS THIS THE RIGHT DIRECTION FOR KHUNE?
