Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Michael Morton believes Kaizer Chiefs fixture against AmaZulu is more important than Mamelodi Sundowns.
Amakhosi play Usuthu on Wednesday night in Durban having won their opening league fixture. After the AmaZulu game, Chiefs play Sundowns on Saturday afternoon at the FNB Stadium in what is considared the most anticipated match in South African football after the Soweto Derby.
Speaking on SoccerBeat podcast, the ex-Pirates star and former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tsepo Masilela discussed Amakhosi’s new squad. Under Nasreddine Nabi, the Glamour Boys have looked promising bringing in seven new players.
“They need Bloem, the boy masters the midfield position, he is a natural six,” Masilela on Chiefs’ next match.
“I don’t know why he didn’t play in the first game, maybe paperwork but I will assume everything is ready now and hopefully we will get to see him start tomorrow’s match.”
Former Kaizer Chiefs defender wants Blom to start
Amakhosi’s new coach Nabi said after the Marumo Gallants match that Blom was not ready physically. “Not all the players are ready, especially some of the new ones like Blom, he’s not ready yet,” he said.
Masilela said Kaizer Chiefs needed a box-to-box midfielder to be more creative in the middle.
“If they managed to sign Appollis, it was going to be a massive signing. As we discussed before, he is a winger with goals and assists,” said the former Bafana Bafana defender.
“The game we watched against Marumo, it’s obvious that the threat is Sirino. He makes them tick going forward and everything in attack goes to Sirini because his decision making on the day(Against Marumo Gallants) was brilliant.”
“I don’t think he has the depth and it’s still early on,” the Kaizer Chiefs legend added. “If you win your two games and play Sundowns next, you can afford to play for a draw. He doesn’t have the squad to rotate now and it’s still early days and they are still trying to find the combinations.”
During the discussion, Morton said Kaizer Chiefs needed to win against AmaZulu on Wednesday.
“I think the Chiefs fans will want to win the Sundowns game more but if I’m looking from an outside, the most imprtant game for them is the AmaZulu game. Sundowns are on another level now and AmaZulu are a type of team Chiefs should be beating.”
Kaizer Chiefs travel to Durban to face Usuthu following their impressive 2-1 win over Gallants. A big score win should put them back to the top of the Betway Premiership.
