Kaizer Chiefs head Coach Nasreddine Nabi reflects on tough SuperSport United loss.
Chiefs coach Nabi views the recent defeat to SuperSport as a crucial lesson for his squad. After starting the season with three consecutive wins, Chiefs now face back-to-back losses against Mamelodi Sundowns and Matsatsantsa, placing them in a challenging position in the league standings.
Nabi’s analysis: Control and missed Opportunities
Nabi expressed his frustration, stating, “It’s a game we controlled practically the whole game; unfortunately, we created many opportunities but we couldn’t score, and the opponent had only one opportunity, and they scored it,” as quoted by iDiski Times.
This analysis underscores the need for the team to convert chances into goals to secure victories.
Reflecting on the squad’s mentality, Nabi noted, “Our young players need to understand that to win a football game, you need to put the ball in the net.” He remains optimistic, believing that this tough lesson will guide the team to perform better moving forward. Nabi previously highlighted a concerning trend: the squad would often lose confidence after conceding a goal.
“This time, we believe that the mentality was good and positive even after conceding,” he said. Nabi praised his players for maintaining focus, pressing hard, and creating chances, particularly in the second half. “We played higher, put numbers in the box, took shots, made crosses; we believed we could change the game,” he added, emphasising the importance of a resilient mindset.
Significant financial victory for former players
In related news, a group of players from Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Orlando Pirates will receive a substantial payout of R124,000 each due to a ruling by the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC). This decision comes as a result of Marumo Gallants’ failure to pay bonuses and prize money to former players following their successful 2022 CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
Ranga Chivaviro from Chiefs, Lesiba Nku from Sundowns, and Katlego Otladisa from Pirates are among the 11 players set to benefit from this payout. The DRC has mandated Gallants to pay nearly R124,000 each to these players.
Ongoing legal battles for Marumo Gallants
The situation for Gallants remains tense, with five additional cases under review by SAFA Arbitration. The club, which made headlines for reaching the Confederation Cup semi-finals, has struggled since their relegation and recently returned to the top flight after acquiring Moroka Swallows’ status.
This recent victory underscores the growing influence of FUSA. An organisation advocating for the rights and interests of South African footballers. FUSA aims to be a powerful voice in negotiations with clubs, leagues, and governing bodies. They recently engaged with the PSL and SAFA to strengthen their relationships with these organisations.
