Kaizer Chiefs are currently putting out flames.
From being fourteen points adrift from their Soweto Rivals, Orlando Pirates, to three successive winless games, the panic metre is rising at the Chiefs headquarters.
Another fire they hope to diffuse will be the temperament of new signing Inacio Miguel, who has been suspended twice in two months – one for an accumulation of yellow cards (4) and the other down to a red card.
The Angolan international has provided much-needed stability to the Kaizer Chiefs back four, but what good is it if he continues to get suspended? This Forces coach Nasreddine Nabi to alter his team around Miguel’s disciplinary issues.
Five cards in his first six games at the club showcases just how erratic he can be.
Former Chiefs defender has his say
Former Glamour Boy David Kannemeyer has experienced the pressures of steering the Kaizer Chiefs ship and feels Miguel has the potential to lead the Soweto Giants towards warmer waters. However, he has some work to do.
“He’s a good defender, but I think he should learn to keep his cool and be a bit calm when he’s playing,” Kannemeyer told FARPost.
“I think it’s frustration, but as a leader and being a captain, sometimes he’s doing well in that field.
“Well [bookings] happen in football, if things are not going well you end up, doing those wrong actions. Those actions come with consequences that may haunt the team. If he corrects that, get less bookings, Miguel will improve his game without a doubt.”
