Orlando Pirates Irvin Khoza has given Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung a R2m gift for his contribution to the development of football in South Africa.

Motaung and Khoza were instrumental in the formation of the Premier Soccer League in 1996 which succeeded the National Soccer League. The two men have shared a close friendship over the years elevating their respective clubs to new levels in the past decades.

“[Motaung’s] investment in the formation of the PSL was much higher,” said Irvin Khoza as per Sowetan Live.

“Brother K, thank you for your dependability. Before I call you on the podium, I have never done this before in the committee, but you have worked for SA football,” Khoza said.

“So, I would like to ask the members of the Exco [executive committee] to grant me permission to grant Dr Motaung R2m to spoil himself,” the Buccaneers boss added.

“Dr Kaizer Motaung has worked hard for himself. I know the pain and agony you went through to build an institution like Kaizer Chiefs and the NSL. May God bless you.”

The same Wednesday, Irvin Khoza was re-elected as chair of the PSL for a sixth term during the organisation’s quadrennial general meeting in Johannesburg. The 74-year-old stood unopposed for his position.
