Former Kaizer Chiefs poacher closing in on move to SuperSport United before the transfer deadline.
SuperSport head coach Gavin Hunt has made it clear that the club is actively pursuing Samir Nurkovic following his recent exit from TS Galaxy. The 32-year-old striker parted ways with Galaxy last week via mutual agreement, seeking a more prominent role as a starter, something the Rockets couldn’t guarantee.
Despite a super-sub role last season, Nurkovic scored 10 goals, proving his worth on the field. With Bradley Grobler sidelined due to injury, SuperSport aims to secure an experienced replacement to bolster their attack.
Urgency in the transfer window
Hunt revealed that the club has already made contact with Nurkovic and his representatives. “The window closes tomorrow; we obviously need to get one or two in, but it’s pending. Hopefully, we can do business between now and tomorrow,” he stated.
He also emphasised Nurkovic’s fit for the team’s style, saying, “Does he suit our style? Okay… that’s what that club there [Sundowns] buys all our players. If we play the wrong style, why do they buy all our players?”
Hunt acknowledged the urgency of the situation, especially with a game approaching on Saturday. “We’re struggling up front, playing midfielders there, so it’s a problem for us,” he added.
In addition to Nurkovic, SuperSport United has shown interest in Orlando Pirates forward Zakhele Lepasa as another potential option to enhance their attacking lineup.
Kaizer Chiefs and Magesi in loan talks for Mthethwa
In related transfer news, Kaizer Chiefs and Magesi FC are in serious negotiations over a loan deal for midfielder Sibongiseni ‘Ox’ Mthethwa. With the transfer window closing this Friday night, both clubs aim to finalize the agreement swiftly.
Chiefs have informed Mthethwa that he no longer fits into the plans of new coach Nasreddine Nabi. Consequently, the club is actively seeking loan opportunities for him across various teams in the Premier Soccer League. Mthethwa joined Amakhosi from Stellenbosch just a year ago, but his excitement has dimmed amid the team’s struggles. With Nabi favouring younger talents like Samkelo Zwane and Yusuf Maart, Mthethwa’s chances for playtime have dwindled further due to Njabulo Blom’s return from Major League Soccer.
