There’s been a lot of change at Kaizer Chiefs this season. Some of it has worked, while a few alterations have poisoned portions of the team.
What does the future hold for Msimango at Kaizer Chiefs?
27-year-old Given Msimango was a pillar in the Chiefs side in 2023-2024, making 26 league appearances. He was an ever-present for TS Galaxy in 2022-2023, making all 30 appearances in the league. That consistency and his clear leadership skills alerted the Chiefs board to his talents. However, 2024-2025 hasn’t been his season with just two outings. He’ll get his opportunity in the first team now with Inacio Miguel suspended for two league matches. The issue? It’s hardly an ideal team or environment to come into, and there’s a long wait for their next fixture against Richards Bay on 27 November. They can either sit and sulk about the 4-0 Carling Knockout defeat to Sundowns, or they can do some soul-searching at an already critical juncture of the campaign.
Nabi has opted for new blood in defence
Nasreddine Nabi’s team selections in the Betway Premiership make it obvious that his preferred central defensive pairing is Rushwin Dortley and Inacio Miguel. The pair started Chiefs’ first four league matches together; Msimango started in the 2-2 draw against Magesi because of Miguel’s suspension for an accumulation of yellows. Now, the Angolan has landed another suspension after his dismissal against Sundowns in the Carling Knockout. Will Msimango step up and take this opportunity? If he doesn’t, his days at Naturena could be numbered.
16-year-old set to be promoted
Speaking of DDC talents, Royce Malatji is one you should remember. Amakhosi’s technical team have uncovered another gem. 16-year-old teenage prodigy Royce Malatji has had a taste of first-team training at Naturena and he seems to be a player capable of playing several positions. The most talented youngsters often can. With a name like Royce, perhaps he’s destined for the top. If you’re good enough you’re old enough.
“He is just 16 years old but he is very good. He can play at right back, central defence, right-wing or even as a central midfielder. It doesn’t matter where he plays – he is just good!,” the Siya crew stated on SoccerLaduma.
Will Nabi manage a top-eight finish?
