KAIZER’s leader was very active in the 2024/25 transfer window and was trying to strengthen the new season composition.
Kaizer Chiefs have been very active in the 2024/25 transfer window as they look to strengthen their squad for the new season. The club have endured one of their most disappointing seasons in recent times, finishing the 2023/24 campaign in 10th place. We take a look at their recent transfer activity and the ongoing rumours regarding players coming and going from Naturena.
Last season, Chiefs conceded 30 goals in the league – five more than they scored – and it is an area where manager Nasreddin Nabi is looking to strengthen his squad. They acquired central defender Rushwin Daughtry and left-back Bongani Samu from rivals Orlando Pirates.
To bolster their attacking options, they signed Uruguayan winger Gaston Sirino from reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns. In other places, managers were associated with more defensive prospects with messages that associate them with the central defender of Ismail Olivier FC and Inasio de Luanda.
The Urug Iron is currently 33 years old (34 years old in February 2025). He said he was trying to leave the champion in a recent season, and it was easy to understand why. Since the 2020/21 campaign, he has not played a lot of football and has not started more than 12 championship games, last season has been the lowest since he presented for the first time in the PSL of The 2017/18 season. He is always considered one of the best technically gifted players in South Africa and the fans of the chefs hope that his best days will not be behind him.
Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly renewed their interest in Stellenbosch FC defender Ismail Olivier Toure. The central defender started 26 league games for the Cape Winelands side, playing 2,264 minutes – 84 per cent of his league time last season. Although the Glamour Boys have yet to make a formal offer, they are renewing their interest in the 26-year-old centre-back.
According to SABC Sport, Kaizer Chiefs have contacted AmaZulu Football Club to enquire about the possible signing of defender Lianne Hanamba, with the Glamour Boys said to value the experience of the Namibian left-back in line with manager Nasreddin Nabi’s preference for experienced players. Chiefs had previously turned their attention to the 29-year-old after unsuccessful attempts to sign Stellenbosch left-back Fawaaz Basadien.
Hanuman has been a regular starter for AmaZulu FC and also previous club Chippa United. Last term, the defender played 28 league matches all of which he also started playing 2,516 minutes of football which equates to (93%) of available minutes throughout the season.
There have been rumours that striker Du Preles could head to Portugal after Vitoria showed interest in the 26-year-old, and if he were to leave the club Chiefs would lose a speedy player who scored four goals and provided one assist last season.
If they really brought one of the two defenders they mentioned, this reflects the club’s ambitions that were ready and prepared in the previous club. This can be pointed out that the clubs, along with new coaches, new technical teams, and other new players, reflect the ambitions of starting one of the best teams in South Africa.
