The transfer window shuts on 20 September and Kaizer Chiefs will be desperate to bring in a couple more attackers. Who’s been linked?
Appollis and Nguse remain the local, realistic options for Kaizer Chiefs
What’s the latest on Polokwane’s Oswin Appollis? Bafana’s latest star was not in Polokwane’s squad for their opening-day win over AmaZulu. However, coach Phuti Mohafe poured water on claims that this omission was because of a pending move.
“Oswin is alive, Oswin is here,” said Mohafe.
“He didn’t play, he was in the national team. So we have to rest him, we need him more going forward.”
Six attackers from far and wide
Appollis and Golden Arrows man Lungeo Nguse Nguse are two of six of the latest high-profile attacking names linked with Chiefs. Three of the more far-fetched foreign candidates to lead the line for Chiefs are Kenyan legend Michael Olunga, prolific Congolese star Fiston Mayele and FAR Rabat and Botswana man Tumisang Orebonye. With all that’s been said recently, the Appollis move seems as about as realistic as the rumours linking Chiefs with Olunga, a man who scored 62 times in his last 61 league outings. Cape Town Spurs winger Asanele Velebayi also continues to be linked.
Next five Kaizer Chiefs matches

- Mamelodi Sundowns – Saturday, September 28, FNB Stadium, 15:00
- SuperSport United – Saturday, October 26, Lucas Moripe Stadium, 17:30
- Magesi FC – Wednesday, October 30, Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, 19:30

Vilakazi could miss crunch clashes
18-year-old Mfundo Vilakazi, scorer of the winner for Chiefs in their opening day 2-1 win over Gallants, has been included in the South African U20 Men’s national team before the Cosafa Cup. These commitments will see him miss upcoming assignments against AmaZulu and quite possibly Sundowns.
“Although some clubs failed to release the players we requested for this important tournament, I believe we have selected a strong quality squad and will be able to achieve our objectives,” Amajita coach Raymond Mdaka said.
