Kaizer Chiefs lie eighth on the log.

It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions since Nasreddine Nabi took control following AmaKhosi’s dismal 2023/24 campaign.

Their back-to-back matches against SuperSport United are an excellent example of how their season has ebbed and flowed – Kaizer Chiefs beat them 4-0 in the first round of the Telkom Cup, only to be beaten by them 1-0 a week later.

Last chance saloon

Last season, defender Spiwe Given Msimango played twenty-six times – this campaign, he hasn’t featured once, with Nasreddine Nabi opting for new signings Inacio Miguel and Rushwin Dortley instead.

This will be a make-or-break season for Msimango, whose exit from Kaizer Chiefs is seemingly inevitable.

Kaizer Chiefs target Bafana Bafana free agents

“It’s true there has been interest in Bongani Zungu by Kaizer Chiefs, but there be a lot that has to change at Chiefs for them to then actually sign Zungu,” a source told Soccer Laduma.

“They are first looking at loaning out some players in that position like Sibongiseni “Ox” Mthethwa or Samkelo Zwane and then if something happens in that respect, then the club will be able to sign Zungu.

“So, at the moment, it all depends on if Kaizer Chiefs can create space that can accommodate the signing of a new midfielder like Zungu. So, as much as they are interested in Zungu because of his experience, they are looking at how that could happen if they are to go ahead with signing Zungu.”

Another player that they could swarm in for is KwaMhlanga-born winger Elias Mokwana – the pacey attacker, who Chiefs tried to sign three months ago, has left his new club Espérance following a breach in contract.

Mokwana’s attorney, Kabelo Mashigo, said, “Much of the issues are confidential.”

Before adding that he “can confirm that the club is in breach of the agreement. We provided them with notice to rectify the breach. They have not complied, leaving the player with no option but to accept the repudiation. Elias is focusing on the call-up now and once that is done, we will consider the next step.”

Do you think Kaizer Chiefs should keep Msimango?
