Arthur Zwane has left Kaizer Chiefs to take up a co-coaching role at AmaZulu. He’s sent the club an emotive goodbye.

Zwane bids goodbye to Amakhosi

Arthur Zwane presided over 37 matches as the Chiefs head coach from June 2022 until June 2023. As a player, he won two league titles with the club in 2004 and 2005, making 71 appearances in the famous black and gold. He’s said goodbye to the club where he’s become such a loved figure.

“I would definitely like to extend my deepest gratitude to Dr. Kaizer Motaung for the unwavering support, guidance and love throughout my Chiefs career as a player and a coach,” says Arthur Zwane, who has moved to AmaZulu.

“His belief in me has allowed me to grow from a player to a development coach and ultimately to the head coach. I am truly thankful for the opportunities the Club has provided which have shaped not just my career but my life. So, thank you to Kaizer Chiefs and thank you to the Chairman.”

10111 joins Usuthu as a co-coach

Arthur Zwane will join AmaZulu alongside Vusumuzi Vilakazi as the pair starts a dual role at Usuthu. This is via FarPost. AmaZulu initially failed to sign Magesi coach Clinton Larsen because of his contract situation with the PSL new boys so they’ve changed their tact after sacking Pablo Franco Martin, who oversaw three consecutive defeats at the start of the new 2024-2025 Betway Premiership campaign. Overall, Martin lost 15 of the 39 games he managed at the club.

Unconventional co-coaching role, focus on youth?

Arthur Zwane’s head coaching tenure at Chiefs came to an end in June 2023 and he moved into a Senior Academy Coach role at Naturena. This move to AmaZulu represents a significant step up, and the same can be said for Vilakazi who was in charge of the AmaZulu Diski Challenge side after leaving Richards Bay. Both of these men are known for their ability to identify and nurture young talent. Vilakazi has previous experience of such a setup, after working with Mabhuti Khenyeza at Golden Arrows. His and Zwane’s first game together in the dugout is likely to be in the Carling Knockout where AmaZulu meets an impressive Stellenbosch side. Their next Betway Premiership match is against MTN8 champions Orlando Pirates on 25 October.

Betway Premiership is on a break

Amakhosi, meanwhile, have just under three weeks to wait until their next Betway Premiership fixture. They’ve started this campaign in decent fashion, with two wins from three, and a recent defeat to Sundowns. Their goal, of course, will be to compete for next season’s MTN8 at a minimum. Here are their next few fixtures as Nabi continues to settle into life at Naturena and they could have several first-teamers back from injury too:

  • SuperSport United – Saturday, October 26, Lucas Moripe Stadium, 17:30 kickoff
  • Magesi FC – Wednesday, October 30, Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, 19:30 kickoff
  • Royal AM – Sunday, November 9 – FNB Stadium, 17:30 kickoff
