Ernest Jones, a starting linebacker for the Los Angeles Rams, is in the final year of his rookie contract and is looking for an extension. But according to ESPN, the contract negotiations have not advanced, and Jones has now been given permission to look for a trade.
Later, Jones claimed on social media that he never requested a trade; however, The Athletic revealed on Monday that Jones was absent from the Rams’ open-to-the-media session.
Still, it would be shocking to see one of the Rams’ young players—a leader on the defensive end of the ball—sent off. The South Carolina native Jones, 24, was chosen by Los Angeles in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. In 2023, he had a career year with 145 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, 14 tackles for loss, and six passes defensed.
In the playoffs, Jones has also performed better. He had three quarterback hits, one sack, and seven total tackles in Super Bowl LVI against the Cincinnati Bengals. During Super Wild Card Weekend last year, he recorded nine total tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble against the Detroit Lions.
