Leeds United could let 20-year-old striker Luca Thomas leave the club on loan in the coming months to accelerate his development.

The young forward has been involved in 13 goals for the Leeds Under-21 side since the turn of the year, the most for a Whites player at that level.

Thomas’ performances for the Under-21s earned him training time with the first team over the summer and he is rated highly inside the Yorkshire giants.

He has scored twice for the Under-21s this season in two appearances in Premier League 2 and has continued his rapid development through the ranks.

With Leeds opting against signing a striker and Patrick Bamford’s injury issues, Thomas could soon find himself on the bench in Daniel Farke’s squads.

However, it has been claimed that a loan move away from the club is being seen as a more viable option for the young striker.

The Leeds United starlet could get loaned out

Clubs in the EFL and the National League are always on the lookout for young promising players ahead of the winter transfer window.

Thomas’ performances have likely popped up on the radar of a few clubs and according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the striker could be loaned out.

Leeds will assess over the next few months to analyse whether it is better to keep him at the club or give him a taste of regular senior football at a lower level.

Thomas has been a prolific scorer for the Under-18s and Under-21s but needs to play regular senior football to take that next step in his development.

The striker’s representatives and Leeds will likely make a decision together in the coming months to find the best course of action.

His current contract expires at the end of the season and he will likely have to sign a new deal if he is to be loaned out in the January transfer window.
