LEEDS STAR, Adam Forshaw predicts where Leeds United will finish in the Championship this season

Adam Forshaw was part of the last Leeds United side which won promotion to the Premier League four years ago.

Though he was sidelined for the majority of the season, nothing can take away from the fact Forshaw did play a role in Leeds ending their 16-year wait for Premier League football

Unfortunately, Forshaw was also a member of the Leeds team which were then relegated back to the Championship 14 months ago, which brought an end to his long stint in West Yorkshire.

It hasn’t been easy for Forshaw since leaving Leeds but he could well return to Elland Road for the first time as a visiting player since leaving in early November.

Forshaw did come up against Leeds for Norwich City at Carrow Road back in October, but was cup-tied after joining Plymouth Argyle for the FA Cup meeting in January.

Forshaw makes Leeds promotion prediction

Leeds head into the new season as the favourites for promotion in many people’s eyes, as they look to go one better than third place and a play-off final defeat last term.

Despite losing Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray, Leeds’ squad looks in good shape ahead of Saturday’s opener with Portsmouth after four wins in as many pre-season matches.

New signings Joe Rodon, Joe Rothwell and Jayden Bogle have settled in well, Brenden Aaronson and Max Wober will add to the squad after their loan spells, and more signings are expected.

The three relegated clubs, Middlesbrough and Coventry City are likely to be some of Leeds’ biggest competitors for promotion, and speaking in an interview with the Athletic, Forshaw believes it is only a ‘matter of time’ before they return to the Premier League.

He said: “The passion of the city is what makes Leeds special. The people inside the club, I made friends for life and I still play golf with physios and fitness staff who were there before me and are still there now.

“The people make the club and it’s got a lot of history. It’s a matter of time before they get promoted again. They weren’t far away last season and they’ll be right up there again this season.”

Ian Holloway makes Leeds prediction

With the new season set to get underway with two matches on Friday night, pundits including Ian Holloway have been giving their predictions.

Holloway is concerned about the wage bill at Elland Road but is backing Daniel Farke to cope with the pressure and still win promotion.

He said: “I felt for them. They kept as many of their good players as they could. I wouldn’t want their wage bill, to be honest, Daniel Farke is great and he could still get them up.”
