Ally McCoist is “a little bit worried” for Leeds United following a summer of departures and limited signings at Elland Road.
Fans have been concerned by the lack of incomings in West Yorkshire, especially following the exits of Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter, Archie Gray and Glen Kamara.
The signings of Jayden Bogle and Largie Ramazani, plus a loan deal for Tottenham’s Manor Solomon, have gone some way to lift spirits at Elland Road, but McCoist is not convinced.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Wednesday (28 August, 6:22am), he said: “I’d be a little bit worried for Leeds United.
“They’ve lost a couple of big players and I’m not sure they’ll get the back-up needed.”
Leeds United to miss out on Premier League promotion again?
Missing out on promotion for the second consecutive campaign feels like a very real outcome for the Whites this season, especially given the number of sales this summer.
While Daniel Farke has worked wonders in the Championship before, securing promotion twice with Norwich City, losing some of his biggest stars is unprecedented.
Summerville and Rutter combined for a total of 25 goals and 24 assists in the Championship last season, narrowly missing out on promotion via the play-offs to Southampton at Wembley.
Although the exits were expected following that final whistle, many fans expected to see the funds being invested back into new signings, and so far, they’ve been disappointed.
Leeds have money to invest from departures – £40million from Rutter’s move to Brighton [BBC Sport], £25million from Summerville’s move to West Ham [BBC Sport], and Gray’s £30million move to Tottenham [BBC Sport].
If Leeds are to challenge for the league title this season or even hope for a play-off spot, they will need to do some serious business in the last few days of the transfer window if this is to be achieved.
In other Leeds United news, Manuel Benson is keen on a move to Elland Road ahead of the August 30 deadline.
