BREAKING NEWS: Magical £7m player would be better off joining Leeds than Southampton as transfer battle starts

Southampton are planning a ‘surprise’ £7m bid for one of Leeds United’s latest transfer targets but the player in question would be better advised to choose Elland Road, over the Saints.

Of course, Southampton beat Leeds in the Championship play-off final at Wembley last month and it has succumbed Daniel Farke’s men to another season in England’s second tier, while Southampton go up.

The Saints have been busy, already making eight signings including the permanent additions of Taylor Harwood-Bellis from Man City and Flynn Downes from West Ham, while Adam Lallana has returned.

But Russell Martin’s side are showing no signs of slowing down in the transfer market. Reports say The Saints are set to bid £7m for Crystal Palace talent Jesurun Rak-Sakyi in an attempt to beat competition.

Leeds want to sign Jesurun Rak-Sakyi on loan from Palace

Southampton’s interest is deemed a ‘surprise’, with Crystal Palace said to be ‘shocked’ at Southampton making a permanent move. Indeed, Palace want a lot more than the £7m Southampton are set to bid.

Leeds are also interested in Rak-Sakyi, who has played 10 times for Palace’s first team but starred on loan at Charlton during 2022-23 where he had a hand in 22 goals in 49 games for The Addicks in League One.

Leeds want to lure Rak-Sakyi to Elland Road on loan, with wingers likely to be a necessity. TeamTalk even say Leeds have made an enquiry to Palace to lure the England U20 winger to Yorkshire this summer.

Why Leeds is a better choice than Southampton for Rak-Sakyi

Game time is absolutely crucial for Rak-Sakyi at this stage in his career and he needs to think carefully about his next club. Rak-Sakyi starred in League One, but hasn’t proved himself further up the leagues.

With 22 goals and assists, he is clearly Championship standard. But the Premier League is a big step up straight away and he may struggle to start for Southampton, while Leeds can offer him more game time.

Especially with Ian Poveda and Jaidon Anthony gone, and both Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto linked with exits. Does the “magical” star want to be playing for a side likely to be in a relegation battle?

Or, join an attacking, front-foot side where he will get regular game time with the Championship the next logical step in his career. Leeds is the better move for Rak-Sakyi this summer, over Martin’s Southampton.

Leeds United have invested heavily into their squad over the past few years, which has included spells in the Premier League.

The aim for The Whites will be to return to the top flight soon, with another season in the Championship in line for this campaign.

Daniel Farke has another chance to earn Leeds promotion at the second time of asking, with a squad that should be competitive at the top.

Some of the players at his disposal have commanded big fees over the years, while others have been shrewder signings.

So with that said, here’s a look at the transfer fees paid for every Leeds United first-team squad player in the transfer market.
