Brenden Aaronson is already well on the road to a full redemption arc at Leeds United, but the international break could be an untimely half of his momentum.
Since making the decision to return in June, Aaronson has fronted up his loan exit last summer both on and off the pitch.
Aaronson was happy to speak to the local press in the summer about how Leeds supporters may respond to his return, but it is more his performances which are getting him back in the good books.
A late equaliser and costly miss against Portsmouth on the opening day was almost like one step forward and two steps back, but thankfully he did not let that affect him.
He netted his second of the season on his first league start in the recent win at Sheffield Wednesday, before then producing his most accomplished performance yet against Hull City.
Why Aaronson could be doubt for Leeds United vs Burnley
Aaronson has been a regular for USA for a number of years now and at his age, to have amassed 42 senior caps is very impressive.
However, there may be a part of him that feels this international break has come at the worst possible time, as he had just been building some real momentum at Elland Road.
And due to the scheduling of USA’s two matches over the next seven days, Aaronson may not be able to pick up from where he left off from the start against Burnley.
USA’s second friendly against New Zealand is due to take place in the early hours of Wednesday morning, which is a logistical nightmare considering Leeds play in the early kick-off on Saturday.
Aaronson’s game would be due to finish around 2am BST, meaning if he was to catch a flight straight back to Leeds straight away, he would probably be landing mid-to-late morning.
Needless to mention, Aaronson would almost certainly be incredibly jet-lagged and it is unlikely he would be back to a proper schedule by the time Leeds kick-off.
Given it is only a friendly, whether this prompts him to decide to pull out early remains to be seen, but involvement against New Zealand would be his availability to start into doubt.
