Brenden Aaronson and Junior Firpo are among the Leeds United players who’ve said goodbye to Crysencio Summerville after he completed a move to West Ham United on Saturday.
Summerville, 22, officially left Elland Road on 3 August to bring to an end a four-year stint in West Yorkshire with the Hammers buying him for £25million plus add-ons [BBC Sport].
The Dutch winger won the Championship Player of the Season award last time out and understandably, there’s been a big reaction to his departure.
Replying to Summerville’s Instagram post on Saturday, left-back Firpo said: “Go well, son. Enjoy. [I] will miss that partnership.”
Willy Gnonto, Pascal Struijk and Joel Piroe sent supportive emojis to the former Feyenoord winger while USA international Aaronson said: “My guy. All the best.”
Who will Leeds United sign now Summerville has left?
If we’re honest, it’s all been fairly quite in terms of potential incoming at Elland Road.
Summerville’s exit isn’t a shock. He was the best player in the Championship last season and if the best player in the Championship doesn’t win promotion to the Premier League, he’s going to be snapped up by someone who’s already in the big time.
Leeds have money to use to find a replacement but it’s unlikely they will find anyone on the Dutchman’s level with him being brought into the club at nurtured from a fairly young age after he rose through the Feyenoord academy in the Netherlands.
Norwich City’s Gabriel Sara has been linked [Özgür Sancar] but he too could be off to a bigger league after doing so well in the Championship last season.
Daniel Farke does have options in his squad already. He’s got Aaronson, Willy Gnonto and Daniel James who can play in those wide roles, which might be enough to help him get through the first weeks of the new season.
That means a late-summer deal for a discount could be on the cards.
However, no one wants to see a panic buy.
In other Leeds news, a “clear winner” from the Whites’ pre-season camp in Germany has been highlighted ahead of their Championship’s opener.
