‘Caused all sorts of problems’… New Leeds target earns 8/10 rating in media after Sunday display

Leeds United are expected to get busy in the final week and a half of the transfer window and one player now being linked with a move to Elland Road has earned praise for his display on Sunday.

With Georginio Rutter set to join Crysencio Summerville in leaving Leeds for a Premier League club, Daniel Farke has made it clear he would like four new signings including replacements for both players.

A new full-back to cover Junior Firpo or Jayden Bogle is also required, with Sam Byram currently the only other option in the squad as a recognised full-back though Pascal Struijk and Max Wober can deputies.

The clock is ticking and despite Gretar Steinsson saying there are plans in place for new signings to Tony Dorigo, the longer the window goes on the harder it is going to be to attract new players to Leeds.Jack Clarke of Sunderland celebrates after he scores the second goal during the Sky Bet Championship match between Cardiff City FC and Sunderland A...

Jack Clarke shines for Sunderland on Sunday and gets 8/10 rating

One player linked with a move to Elland Road is Jack Clarke. Leeds are said to be aware of Sunderland star Clarke’s situation, with The Black Cats keen to tie Clarke down to a deal but are struggling to do so.

Having scored in Sunderland’s opening win over Cardiff, he got an assist on Sunday as Sunderland put Sheffield Wednesday to the sword and secured a 4-0 win. The Sunderland Echo gave Clarke an 8/10.

“Excellent assist for [Eliezer] Mayenda’s second and caused Wednesday all sorts of problems as you’d expect. Defensively very diligent and tracked back well,” the Echo wrote in a player ratings article.

Stuart Dallas explains why Leeds might be taking their time

With Summerville gone, Leeds need a left winger and it is probably fair to say that the Championship’s second-best left winger after Summerville last season was Clarke after his haul of 15 goals in 2023-24.

But Stuart Dallas has a theory behind Leeds’ tactic of staying patient in their pursuit of new signings because they may wait to see who has been picked in 25-man squads registered by the Premier League.

“In my opinion, they will bring players in. Probably waiting for Premier League clubs to announce 25-man squads before looking who’s not been picked, I don’t know,” Dallas said after Leeds drew with West B
