Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl delivered an honest verdict on his side’s 2-0 defeat to Leeds United.
Leeds
Wednesday were restricted to little in the way of clear-cut chances as Leeds kept them at arms length to win by the exact same scoreline as in March earlier this year.
After winning their first home game of the season 4-0 against Plymouth Argyle, Wednesday fans will have been heading into the game in an expectant mood.
However, despite the issues at Leeds over the last few weeks, there certainly was a clear difference in class between the two sides.
Rohl says Wednesday could not handle Gnonto
Brenden Aaronson and Dan James were the men on the scoresheet for Leeds but it was perhaps their attacking teammates who shone the brighest.
Mateo Joseph was handed the man of the match award by Sky Sports and it was his incredible through ball which set James up to score his first of the season.
Speaking in his post-match interview on Sky, though, it was actually Wilfried Gnonto who Wednesday boss Rohl waxed lyrical about after the game.
Despite initially lining up on the left, Gnonto frequently came inside to take the ball in central areas, something which caused the hosts all sorts of problems.
Rohl said: “We saw a good Leeds side with quality. Against a strong Leeds, you have to make a lot of things right and maybe in some situations, you need a little bit of luck.
“I think it was difficult to press them today. I think Gnonto played unbelievable today. He was the playmaker, he created always the overload in the middle of the centre. It was difficult.”
