DONE DEAL: Leeds United set to sign Portuguese top-flight winger with €15m release clause terms agreed with both parties and medicals expected soon

Leeds United have shown an interest in Farense winger Mohamed El Bachir Belloumi this summer.

That’s according to a report from Portuguese outlet Record, via Sport Witness, who say that the Elland Road club have watched the 22-year-old on a number of occasions in recent times.

Belloumi joined Farense from MC Oran in his native Algeria, and enjoyed an impressive campaign in Portugal’s top-flight last season, following Farense’s promotion the year before.

In total, the winger has made 41 appearances in all competitions for the club, and helped them to a tenth place finish in the Primeira Liga last season.

Now it seems as though the Algerian’s form is starting to attract attention from elsewhere, with just a few days left until the transfer window closes.

Leeds United eyeing Primeira Liga winger

As per this latest update, Leeds have become the latest club to take an interest in signing Belloumi this summer.

It is thought that the Championship side have regularly sent scouts to watch the winger in action for Farense.

However, there are apparently no suggestions that there is a rush to get this deal done, leading to a prediction that this may be a signing seen as one potentially for the future.

Last summer, Belloumi signed a new contract with Farense, that secures his future at the club until the end of the 2026/27 season.

There are though, reports that suggest that deal includes a release clause that can be triggered for a fee of €15 million.

As we enter the final days of the window, Leeds have already made five signings in the summer transfer window.

Joe Rodon, Alex Cairns, Jayden Bogle and Largue Ramazani have all signed permanently, while Joe Rothwell has joined on a season-long loan from Bournemouth.

Even so, the high profile departures of the likes of Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter, Archie Gray and Glen Kamara this summer, means they need to be active before the market closes.

On the pitch, Daniel Farke’s side have taken five points from their opening three games of the Championship campaign, putting them sixth in the early standings.

They are next in action on Saturday afternoon, when Hull City make the trip to Elland Road.

Farense have endured a difficult start to their campaign, losing all three league games so far, meaning they are currently bottom of the Portuguese top division.

Belloumi could be one to watch for Leeds United

It does seem as though this could be a link to keep an eye on for the future at Elland Road.

There has been a need for Leeds to add to their attacking midfield options this summer, and Belloumi could fit that bill, given he regularly plays on the right-wing.

However, iit is worth noting that they are also being linked with the likes of Roland Sallai in that position.

Having played in the Bundesliga, Serie A, Champions League, Europa League, and Euros, he does seem to have more pedigree than Belloumi and could therefore be a more appealing option.

Even so, the Algerian is five years younger than Sallai, and so may be an option further down the line, or if that move does not materialise.

Given the release clause in his contract, Belloumi should also be affordable if he is needed, given the funds that have come into Elland Road from player sales already this summer.

So with all that in mind, it seems as though links with a move for the Farense winger, could at the very least be worth watching out for, among those of a Leeds United persuasion.
