Leeds United have just two weeks to bring in the reinforcements Daniel Farke has publicly stated he desires.
Despite Paraag Marathe’s insistence Leeds would not be in the same position as this time 12 months ago, the need for signings is arguably greater now than it was then.
Leeds lost numerous first team players across the 2023 summer transfer window but none more important than what Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter turned out to be last season.
Yes, Leeds have generated around £65 million in their sales, but finding players of their level in the Championship is going to be so difficult to find.
However, that is no excuse for the 49ers and Leeds’ recruitment team, with Farke making what he needs abundantly clear, and it is now up to them to deliver.
Leeds in talks with Hammarby for Jusef Erabi
In terms of the positions Leeds actually need to address in that frontline, a new wideman and number 10 are the most important.
Wilfried Gnonto and Dan James are great options, but a new left-footed right winger would help the balance of the team. Leeds are also desperately short of creativity without Rutter
With that in mind, this latest transfer link from journalist Marc Mechenoua comes as a big surprise.
According to Mechenoua, Leeds and Norwich City are now battling for the signing of Hammarby IF striker Jusef Erabi, who is said to have an asking price of £7 million.
The two Championship clubs – who are both also keen on Burnley’s Manuel Benson – are said to be in ongoing discussions with the Swedish side over a deal.
Erabi is very much an out-and-out number nine and so unless one of Joel Piroe or Patrick Bamford was to depart, he doesn’t really feel like the kind of player Leeds need.
Who is Leeds target Jusef Erabi?
Although he may not be a priority position right now, at 21 Erabi is clearly a talented young player having scored 18 goals in 60 appearances for Hammarby.
He has been capped for Sweden at U19, U20 and U21 level and clearly by his valuation, he is a player Hammarby view as having big potential.
However, with Mateo Joseph currently the man leading the line, if Leeds were to bring in another striker, it would surely be down the more experienced route.
It has to be said, it does feel like the £7 million could be spent much wisely on the other positions in Leeds’ attack.
