Fabrizio Romano: Leeds United hit full negotiations with West Ham over expensive Summerville package

West Ham United are in talks with Leeds United over an “expensive package” for Crysencio Summerville, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer journalist reported via GiveMeSport [26 July] that the Hammers have had contacts on the player and club’s side after speaking with Leeds last week.

Summerville is said to be one of the players on the Premier League club’s shortlist this summer, but while the interest is “genuine”, the Irons may not be able to afford it.

Will Crysencio Summerville depart Leeds United this summer?

As soon as the final whistle blew at Wembley Stadium, and Leeds were pipped to Premier League promotion by Southampton, thoughts immediately turned to which players could be leaving this summer.

Glen Kamara and Archie Gray may have been somewhat surprising exits already. The likes of Summerville, Wilfried Gnonto and Georginio Rutter were expected to be the most sought-after stars this summer.

Now, the race for their 22-year-old Dutchman finally looks to be heating up, with several clubs voicing their interest in signing Summerville from Elland Road.

Of course, with 21 goals and 10 assists in all competitions, the Whites should not be settling for a small fee if Summerville is to leave the club ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

The winger is, arguably, Daniel Farke’s most important player, and if he were to leave, Leeds would be left with a void to fill with the hope of being promoted at the second time of asking.

Summerville finished the season as Leeds’ highest scorer in the Championship, as well as the second-best playmaker. His exit would be devastating if the club could not find a suitable replacement.

With the new additions of Joe Rodon, signing on a permanent deal from Tottenham, Joe Rothwell and Jayden Bogle, the Whites are doing well to address the issues in the squad but it could be about to get a lot worse.

In other Leeds United news, Mateo Joseph sent a message after Derby County completed a new signing.
