Fans react as Leeds United key players set to miss class vs Newcastle United

The Chronicle claim that Leeds United captain Liam Cooper could potentially return for the trip to West Ham in what will be our penultimate Premier League game this season – but is likely to be missing for the welcome of Newcastle. Cooper, 31, has endured a season ravaged by injury.

Just 18 appearances have come Cooper’s way. He started his third League game in a row against Bournemouth away from home, but was subbed on 34 minutes with an injury. It saw the skipper miss the trip to Manchester City and many are hopeful that are experienced captain can play on Saturday when Newcastle come to town. However, a report from the Chronicle have touted when he will be back.

Indeed, they say he will be missing against Eddie Howe’s Champions League-chasing Toon. Instead, his likely date of return will be against West Ham a week later, meaning Cooper could be fit for the remaining two League games

Leeds were lacking many options in the middle of the defence on Saturday. Robin Koch could only make the bench having failed to train much during the week prior to Manchester City. Pascal Struijk came off the bench to play.

Koch remained on the bench, with Rasmus Kristensen partnering Max Wober in the middle – the two ex-Salzburg teammates combining to keep Erling Haaland quiet, who has now gone two games without a goal for Man City.

Having Cooper fit will be a massive boost when he does return, even if he does not start. Simply having the star fit, and in and around the matchday squad, will increase morale. A player Jesse Marsch once described as “flawless”.
