Marc Roca is poised to complete a season-long loan deal with Real Betis this week as he prepares to depart Leeds United following their relegation.
Following the club’s relegation from the Premier League last season, a flurry of departures are expected at Elland Road in the coming days and weeks.
Leeds begin pre-season preparations for the Championship season on Sunday, but some players are already looking for other opportunities.
Throughout June, reports appeared indicating that Real Betis are close to signing Leeds midfielder Marc Roca, with a loan transfer to his homeland on the cards.
Roca joined Leeds for £10 million from Bayern Munich a year ago, but despite exhibiting quality in possession with his passing range, his lack of toughness stood out most weeks.
According to El Chiringuito journalist Gonzalo Tortosa, Roca is one of three new acquisitions who Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini hopes will be available for the start of pre-season on July 4.
Roca is thought to be content to wait for a departure so that Betis can free up wages to bring him in on loan, since defensive midfielder William Carvalho appears to be on his way out.
Roca must depart if he is to regain his best form and pursue a call-up to Spain, which was not happening here.
The Premier League, and by extension the Championship, were not conducive to Roca’s success, and it brought out the worst in him.
He might return to La Liga and rediscover the form that won him the Bayern Munich move in the first place.
