‘Fantastic’ player has played just one minute this season after Leeds had him ‘on the list’ in the summer

On the evidence of the defeat to Burnley, Leeds United certainly could’ve done with that number 10 in the summer.

Brenden Aaronson was the only player able to open up the Clarets throughout the 90 minutes at Elland Road, but that happened on just one occasion as Leeds displayed a distinct lack of creativity.

Daniel Farke was disappointed at Leeds’ failure to add an attacking midfielder to his squad in the summer but unfortunately, he is going to have to make do with what he’s got.

Farke perhaps needs to look at himself and his tactics as to why his side could not break down Burnley, with it difficult to remember a time when Leeds’ front four linked up aside from Aaronson’s through ball for Wilfried Gnonto’s chance.

Having said that, had Leeds been able to land one of the names Angus Kinnear mentioned in his interview last week, it would’ve made a world of difference.

James McAtee struggling for minutes after Leeds interest

Kinnear mentioned some highly ambitious players during his chat about Leeds’ quest for a number 10, including Emi Buendia who rejected a move to Elland Road.

Sheffield United’s Gustavo Hamer is one that reached the media, while Kinnear also name dropped the likes of Fabio Carvalho and James McAtee.

Leeds will have only been in the running for the latter two had they been made available for loan, but that wasn’t the case. Carvalho ended up joining Brentford for big money.

McAtee, meanwhile, has found it tough at Manchester City this season after returning from a second season on loan with Sheffield United.

Kinnear claimed McAtee was a name ‘on the list’ at Leeds but in the end, City opted to keep him, presumably due to the hectic schedule which is set to hit them in the coming weeks.

However, McAtee’s patience is certainly being tested so far, as he has played just a minute of Premier League football all season, which came in the 3-1 win over Ipswich Town.

Perhaps the ‘fantastic‘ McAtee would have never dropped down to the Championship anyway, but a move to Leeds would certainly have seen him play more regularly than that.

Fabio Carvalho shines for Brentford

As mentioned, Carvalho is another player Kinnear revealed Leeds had an interest in, until he joined Brentford.

Carvalho is actually yet to start a league match for the Bees but has had a couple in the Carabao Cup, including in last night’s win over Leyton Orient.

And it was a very good night for him on a personal level, as he scored one and assisted two in a 3-1 victory, to really announce his arrival at his new club.
