FIFA have ordered Leeds United to pay Jean-Kevin Augustin £24.5million

The Athletic reports that FIFA has ordered Leeds United to pay Jean-Kevin Augustin £24.5 million after they were deemed to have breached their former player’s contract.

Augustin, who is now at FC Basel, took the dispute to FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber, which ruled in his favor substantially. Leeds has filed an appeal against the decision.

When contacted about the case, Leeds’ spokespeople stated that the club cannot “comment on an ongoing legal matter.” The sum is claimed to include full payment of the player’s weekly wage of €90,000 over a five-year period.

Leeds agreed to a £15.5 million settlement with RB Leipzig over Augustin last December. The Whites previously lost their appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) when the two clubs disagreed on the transfer. The case was eventually “amicably resolved.”

Augustin only appeared in three games for the club before moving on to Nantes and now Basel. Leeds have been forced to pay the full £18 million sum agreed upon with Leipzig at the time of Augustin’s loan transfer in January 2020.
