Jamie Carragher advised Leeds United to sell out two players after Liverpool’s 1-6 embarrassing defeat

Leeds’ defending was dubbed ’embarrassing’ by Jamie Carragher following their 6-1 loss to Liverpool on Monday night.

Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah each scored twice in a stunning win for Jurgen Klopp’s team at Elland Road. Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez also scored.

Leeds have now conceded the most goals in the league, having allowed 16 in their previous four games, including 11 in their last two.

Carragher was blunt in his appraisal of Javi Gracia’s side, telling Sky Sports: ‘This Leeds squad has had three different managers yet remains the worst defensively in the Premier League.

‘They’ve got really poor defenders and I’m not convinced by the goalkeeper – I know he’s young – but he’s got no presence. They look like they’ve got a kid in goal.’

Goalkeeper Illan Meslier has kept just five clean sheets this season and none since late February.

Carragher, who played over 700 games in defense for Liverpool, called Robin Koch ’embarrassing’ for allowing Andy Robertson to slide by him in the buildup to the Reds’ third goal.

Liverpool will be overjoyed with the result, which is only their fourth away win of the season and their first against a side lower in the table.

They struggled to make much of an impact in the first half but picked up two late goals after errors from the hosts, and put in an excellent counter-pressing performance after the break that was reminiscent of the side seen in previous years.

Klopp’s men remain eighth and will require a miraculous set of results from the teams above them to finish in the top four, but the performance against Leeds will buoy fans after a season that has given them little to shout about.

Monday was a fantastic opportunity for the hosts to move five points above the drop zone, but they instead remain in jeopardy after absorbing a significant knock to their goal difference.

They still face games against relegation opponents Bournemouth, Leicester, and West Ham, as well as Man City, Tottenham, and Newcastle.

Javi Gracia’s team will play Fulham next on Saturday, while Liverpool will play Nottingham Forest.
