Joe Rodon left frustrated by £5m Leeds United player on Saturday – and it’s not the first time

Leeds United bounced back from a 1-0 defeat against Burnley on Saturday with a comfortable 2-0 win in Wales against Cardiff City.

Goals from Largie Ramazani and Joel Piroe secured three points in what was a controlled performance, without ever really exceeding second gear. Leeds fans did grow frustrated until Piroe put Leeds 2-0 up.

Daniel Farke’s side missed numerous different chances after Ramazani’s opener, with the new £10m man missing a sitter soon after. Pascal Struijk then missed a penalty halfway through the second half.

Farke described Piroe as the Championship’s best finisher in his post-match press conference after the Dutch ace scored in the 87th minute, ending Leeds fans’ frustration and putting the game beyond doubt.

But the frustration was not only felt by Leeds supporters. Indeed, Joe Rodon was particularly annoyed with a Leeds teammate during the win after a stray pass and it certainly is not the first time, either.

The Wales defender is renowned for demanding high standards of his Leeds teammates, and visibly showing his emotions on the pitch whether that is directed at teammates, opponents or the referee.

Illan Meslier was the subject of Rodon’s frustration on Saturday afternoon, when a pass from Meslier went straight out of play after the Frenchman failed to spot Rodon had moved from his original position.

Leeds Live say Rodon was visibly annoyed with Meslier’s distribution and even ‘slapped his thighs’ in anger at Meslier. Rodon also made his frustration known by saying something to the £5m goalkeeper.

It is not the first time Meslier’s passing has annoyed Rodon

With the entire 2023-24 campaign on the line, Leeds entered the play-offs last season and faced Norwich City in the play-off semi-finals. A nervy first leg was followed by a thunderous 4-0 win in the second leg.

That first leg saw Leeds draw 0-0 with Norwich at Carrow Road and the nerves were obvious. So much so that a misplaced pass to Rodon from Meslier, and a ball into Ilia Gruev was criticised on-pitch by Rodon.

Rodon vented his criticism at Leeds star Meslier back in May 2024. With Rodon and Meslier’s first names on the team sheet, perhaps it is something the duo need to work on in training ahead of Coventry.
