Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu were among the Leeds United players in international action on Friday night.
Rodon, Ampadu, Charlie Crew and Karl Darlow make up the quartet of Leeds players in this month’s Wales squad, though the latter two were both unused substitutes in the 0-0 draw against Turkey.
Alongside those four, Mateo Joseph, Max Wober and Manor Solomon all featured for their respective countries, on a busy night of football for Daniel Farke‘s squad.
Joseph was the only player to be on the winning side as his second half strike just moments after coming off the bench sealed a 2-1 victory for Spain U21s over Scotland.
Wober’s Austria, meanwhile were held to a 1-1 draw by Slovenia in their Nations League opener, with Solomon’s Israel losing 3-1 away to Belgium in the same competition.
Welsh media deliver verdict on Leeds duo Rodon and Ampadu
There were a couple of interesting little sub-plots to Wales’ match last night, the main one being it was new manager Craig Bellamy’s first game in charge.
Rodon and Ampadu were also lining up alongside former Leeds loanee Connor Roberts, who they will be coming up against with Burnley in just a weeks’ time.
And although Wales did not quite manage to pick up the three points, the Leeds duo can say that is now four clean sheets in a row they have been involved in across all competitions.
The Wales Online were impressed by the performances of both Rodon and Ampadu, with the former particularly praised for how he wound-up Baris Yilmaz, who was sent off in the second half.
They wrote: “Joe Rodon 8 – Stood up so well defensively, and completely rattled Yilmaz in the first half. Missed a great chance early on, mind.
“Ethan Ampadu 8 – Was given far more opportunity to express himself in the holding midfield role. Tidy in possession all evening.”
When are Rodon and Ampadu next in action for Wales?
Rodon and Ampadu are two of the staples of Wales’ modern day side and so will almost certainly be starting their second match too.
Bellamy’s side are set to make the trip to face Montenegro on Monday, which is a fairly short turnaround considering they only played last night.
However, one positive is that it gives them both a full four days to recover for Leeds’ match against Burnley on Saturday.
All Leeds will be hoping for is that they come out of the game unscathed.
