I AM LEAVING: Illan Meslier set to leave to leave Leeds United as personal talks begin

Marseille are interested in signing Illan Meslier from Leeds United this summer with contact established, according to La Provence.

The French outlet has reported (28 June) that the Frenchman could be of interest to new manager Roberto De Zerbi this summer.

The 24-year-old is said to be “in contact” with the Ligue 1 giants already with him “enthusiastic” about a transfer to France in the transfer window.

Meslier has “a fairly high release clause” but there is a chance that a cheaper deal could be negotiated but no fee has been agreed yet.

Ilian Meslier could leave Leeds United

After missing out on promotion to Southampton in the Play-Off final, Leeds were prepared to lose some of their key stars this summer.

The likes of Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto were always likely to have suitors from the Premier League and across Europe.

With that being said, the financial situation at Elland Road isn’t as damaging as first feared so sales may not prove to be necessary.

This has been made easier by the investment and ownership of Red Bull which may make the transfer window easier to navigate.

Meslier was one of the standout goalkeepers in the Championship last season behind a great Leeds defence throughout the campaign.

With Joe Rodon already gone, losing the Frenchman could prove detrimental to Daniel Farke’s defensive set-up at Elland Road.

Marseille are one of the top teams in France, despite finishing eighth last season, so turning them down may prove difficult for Meslier this summer.

In other Leeds news, a clause has emerged as the Whites want to sign a new double-winning attacker.
