Leeds United have struggled against their promotion rivals this season, recording draws against Norwich City, West Bromwich Albion, and Sunderland. They’ve also lost to Burnley, making it challenging for them to secure wins against teams competing for the top two automatic promotion spots.
The Yorkshire side heads into the international break in fifth place in the Championship, having won four of their first nine matches, drawn four, and lost one. Moreover, after the FIFA international break, they’ll have another crack at beating a promotional rival in Sheffield United.
Sheffield are second in the Championship table, so a win against the Blades could instill confidence in the group, particularly after it was ripped away in the last match against Sunderland.
Can Leeds replicate Brentford’s success?
Farke is navigating the challenging start to the season and while some call for his job, one pundit believes that Leeds should stick by their manager. Additionally, the Whites should use Brentford’s success with Thomas Frank as an example of why Leeds United should not consider sacking Farke.
“For most of the games Leeds play, they’re the better team,” pundit Don Goodman told MOT Leeds News. “But as we have seen, if you don’t take your chances, then you won’t get the results that your performances deserve.
“I always refer back to Thomas Frank at Brentford when he won one of his first 10 after replacing Dean Smith. A lesser club with lesser stability might have decided to look elsewhere. But look at Brentford now.
“They saw the underlying numbers and saw they actually deserved to win six or seven of those games. So I don’t see anything different when it comes to Farke and Leeds United.
“They are the better team in almost all of the games they’ve played but have missed chances. I don’t have any worries about them going forward. If they stay in the lowest reaches of the play-offs for now, well that’s not too dissimilar to last season.”
