Leeds set to announce star man signing as defender spotted at Elland Road

According to Last Word on Sports, Sam Byram is likely to be unveiled as a new Leeds United signing “imminently” after being observed at Elland Road with a family member.

According to the outlet’s website on Friday (4 August), the defender is expected to “complete media obligations” before being named a permanent part of the Whites side.

According to “sources and eyewitnesses,” Byram, 29, is set to become the club’s third signing of the transfer window, following Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea and Karl Darlow from Newcastle.

The former Leeds United academy product played for Norwich City under Daniel Farke and has been training with the Whites as well as appearing in preseason matches.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post (3 August), Byram must be registered by Friday in order to be available for the Championship opener against Cardiff City on Sunday (6 August) at Elland Road.

Once Byram began to appear for Leeds United during preseason, it was always expected that he would be included to the team, at least temporarily.

Farke’s incoming transfer business has been impeded by a combination of late confirmation of his hiring and the 49ers takeover, as well as the fact that nearly all exiting players were on loan and thus did not produce transfer fees.

With left-back a continuing issue at Elland Road, Junior Firpo slated to go but still a Whites player, and Leo Hjelde relatively inexperienced, Byram’s versatility will be beneficial.

He appears to have demonstrated sufficient fitness to cover both full-back positions and potentially fill in as a centre-back.

Max Wober’s late loan leave, combined with similar movements for Robin Koch, Rasmus Kristensen, and Diego Llorente, has left the defence looking thin, and with an offer for captain Liam Cooper to travel to Saudi Arabia reportedly on the table, there is potential for it to grow much thinner.

However, if Byram was present at the stadium on Friday, he may be in line to play in the season opener if the team was able to complete the requisite paperwork on time.
