Swansea manager Michael Duff has provided an update on Joel Piroe’s future in statements published by Wales Online, amid claims that Leeds United are competing with a number of clubs to sign the Dutch goal machine.
Piroe, 23, has been a key player for the Swans over the last two seasons. He joined Swansea from PSV in the summer of 2021 and has scored 44 goals in 92 games. The striker is presently in the final year of his contract with Swansea.
According to a recent Wales Online article, Piroe is certain to stay at Swansea, with interested parties unwilling to reach the club’s £15 million asking price – or structure a deal to their liking. Leeds, Leicester, Atalanta, and more clubs are interested.
Swansea gaffer Duff has now provided an update. He stated that he has spoken with the in-demand striker, but that the club has not received any proposals for him. Piroe will remain a Swansea player this summer until they do.
“I’ve had conversations with Joel, but there haven’t been any bids,” Duff said of striker Piroe, according to Wales Online. “He’s our player until there’s a bid.” He’s been absolutely fantastic in the way he’s handled everything.”
A new update on the future of Swansea attacker Joel Piroe has emerged amid Leeds rumors.
Piroe is critically needed by Leeds. This weekend, the Whites may be missing Patrick Bamford, who has a hamstring issue, and Georginio Rutter, who has a core problem. It illustrates the lack of attacking options ahead of Cardiff.
It also emphasizes the necessity for greater firepower. Joe Gelhardt is a ten, as he himself admits, while Mateo Joseph is unproven. It remains to be seen whether Leeds will pay the required fee for Piroe this summer.
