Leeds United’s pre-season schedule begins today, and while every player under contract with the club is expected to report today or following international duty, some won’t be staying long.
The Whites’ pre-season begins today, with the players being put through their paces at Thorp Arch in preparation for the 23/24 Championship season.
Just over a month of hard training awaits the players, along with some pre-season friendlies, as we begin to get a better idea of how the team will line up against Cardiff City.
However, there are several players who we should already know will not be here for the start of the season and will be leaving soon.
Here, we take a look at two players who are unlikely to be at the club for much longer…
Shackleton, Jamie
Shackleton’s first senior season away from Leeds came last season, when he joined Millwall in the Championship on loan.
Charlie Cresswell, his partner at the New Den, is expected to be a significant figure in the side this season as the defence undergoes a massive rebuild, but Shackleton’s future appears to be elsewhere.
He was declared surplus to requirements by last season’s loan, and with one year left on his contract, he wouldn’t represent a significant outlay for another club.
While he’s on the books, he should be back in training and possibly being looked at by Thorp Arch coaches, but he should be looking for a move.
Harrison, Jack
If that miracle opportunity presented itself, Leeds would undoubtedly want to keep Jack Harrison.
He’s not going to stay, though, because he’s too excellent to be back in the Championship after demonstrating his worth in 2023, especially with a failing side around him.
There will be plenty of Premier League interest in the winger this summer, but he will be professional about his departure from Elland Road.
If no deal is reached by the time he’s anticipated to return to Thorp Arch, he’ll go to work.
Having said that, it’s just a matter of time before he disappears.
