Leeds manager Sam Allardyce has stated that the game against West Ham on Sunday is “do or die” for his relegation rivals.
The Yorkshire club is third from bottom and one point from safety, with only two games remaining in their quest to keep their top-flight status.
With four games remaining, Allardyce acknowledged that Sunday’s journey to the capital was virtually a ‘cup final’.
“That’s it,” the former England manager stated. It’s either do or die, lads. Fight. Fight till the bitter end.
“However, fight with the right temperament and control, and don’t lose control.” And don’t forget about the game plan.”
If relegation opponents Nottingham Forest and Everton win on Saturday against Arsenal and Wolves, respectively, Leeds will be under extreme pressure to win all three points at the London Stadium.
Only time will tell if Allardyce’s men can handle the strain, according to him.
“I think it’s a difficult situation if the teams down there on Saturday have picked up three points and it’s almost a foregone conclusion that you have to get three points to stay in the game.”
“So, when it comes around, and whatever the situation is when we get to Sunday afternoon, we have to deal with it, accept it, and use it to motivate us to give our best performance.”
“No matter what happens on Saturday, we have to deliver a three-point scenario at West Ham to try to save our Premier League status, and handling the pressure that comes with that is a big question of ‘can you?'”
Leeds fired Gracia, who had only taken over for Jesse Marsch in February, after a string of humiliating defeats.
