According to the Daily Mail, Leeds United striker Tyler Roberts is now prepared for his Birmingham City medical after the two clubs agreed on a deal on Monday [19 June].
The Welsh international, who temporarily switched Elland Road for Queens Park Rangers this season, appeared 20 times for the West London club, scoring four goals, but is now seeking for a new club.
Athletic journalist Phil Hay stated on 15 June that the 24-year-old will be leaving Elland Road permanently, with a report in the Daily Mail newspaper [19 June, page 63] claiming that the Welsh international is expected to complete his transfer to St Andrews on Monday.
And it’s now been claimed that the two parties have agreed on a cost of roughly £500,000 with add-ons, with Roberts’ physical at St Andrew’s on Monday [19 June] ahead of his move.
New beginnings
Roberts was formerly one of Leeds United’s most important players under former manager Marcelo Bielsa and a firm favorite of the revolutionary coach. What a difference a couple of years makes in football.
Roberts has had a terrible number of years, plagued by injuries on numerous occasions throughout his career. His persistent injury problems harmed his form and confidence in a Leeds United shirt, preventing him from consistently competing at a high level.
During his final performances at Elland Road, he appeared weary, beaten, and in need of a new lease on life elsewhere. Roberts even appeared to be getting things going slowly at Queens Park Rangers last season, but due to another concerning knee setback, he was unable to build on a promising start in West London.
The 24-year-old definitely needs a fresh start elsewhere, and maybe he can receive one at Birmingham City, who are eager for a striker this summer and have the kind of platform for a player looking to reinvigorate oneself.
Who knows, the Elland Road favourite could be a chink in the Whites’ Championship ambitions next season; after all, it’s all written in the footballing script, isn’t it?
