Despite being put on the club’s released list earlier this month, Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw has been granted a new deal.
According to TEAMtalk, insiders inside Leeds have told them that Forshaw has been given the option to prolong his stay in West Yorkshire, with his current deal expiring on June 30th.
Forshaw’s return to Elland Road was always a possibility, with a tiny clause near the conclusion of Leeds’ official club statement confirming his release allowing the 31-year-old to return for the start of pre-season training on July 2nd.
This option appears to be on the table now, as TEAMtalk reports that Leeds have offered Forshaw a new agreement “on reduced terms.” The former Middlesbrough man is thought to be pondering his options, with “several other clubs” keeping an eye on his position.
Forshaw’s stint at Leeds has been marred by injuries, but there is no doubt that when he is fit, he provides a composed and experienced presence in the middle of the park.
Given that current Whites midfielders Marc Roca and Tyler Adams have been heavily linked with moves away from the club, as well as the fact that Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie has already left LS11 after an ill-fated six-month loan spell, Forshaw could find himself in a much larger role for Leeds next season.
After all, Forshaw was a member of Marcelo Bielsa’s promotion-winning Leeds squad in the 2019/20 season, and he may be eager to repeat the achievement next season.
