Leeds United appear to be closing in on their seventh signing of the summer.
The Whites have just made Manor Solomon signing number six and he could soon be followed by another as Leeds continue their busy end to the window.
Including Solomon, as many as four players could join the Whites before the 11pm deadline on August 30 with Daniel Farke keen to bring in a new full-back, central midfielder and attacker.
Leeds are pushing hard to get a deal done for Freiburg attacker Roland Sallai, while Max Aarons has emerged as an option in defence.
A £13 million bid was rejected by Sheffield United for Gustavo Hamer on Monday, while there is also interest in Bournemouth’s Philip Billing.
Leeds closing in on deal for Ao Tanaka
Despite links to those high profile midfield names, it appears as though Leeds are set to look abroad in their pursuit of a goalscoring number eight.
Leeds have often found their is better value abroad and according to the Daily Mail, they are set to take advantage of that once again.
As per the report, Leeds have opened talks with Fortuna Dusseldorf over a deal to sign Japanese international Ao Tanaka, who has a release clause of just £2.65 million.
Leeds are said to have made contact with the German club in the last 24 hours and Tanaka could even fly into England tonight if an agreement can be reached quickly.
Tanaka is a player Leeds were actually linked with signing last summer but Farke instead opted for both Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev, though the former has moved on this summer.
Who is Leeds target Ao Tanaka?
Tanaka would certainly fit the profile of the goalscoring midfielder Farke is keen to sign, having netted seven goals and provided four assists last season.
As mentioned, Tanaka is a full Japan international and has been capped on 27 occasions by his country, scoring eight times.
At the reported fee, Tanaka would represent a real bargain for Leeds and would provide plenty of competition for the likes of Joe Rothwell and Ilia Gruev.
He has already played three full 90 minutes’ for Fortuna Dusseldorf this season and so would be ready to hit the ground running.
