Decisions will soon need to be made on three senior Leeds United players
Three senior Leeds United players have entered the final months of their Elland Road deals. As things stand, Junior Firpo, Sam Byram and Joshua Guilavogui will become free agents from July 1.
No decisions have yet to be taken on the experienced trio. Speaking last week, Whites boss Daniel Farke said: “There is no time to be distracted by contract talks. We’ll speak about this topic when there’s a bit more time to do it.
“With Junior, [a] very good start to the season, then a few suspension and injuries. You do this when the player is back in his shape and rhythm.
“There is no time to waste any injury or think about individuals. The players know we are a trustful partner as a club. They know they can trust us. We’ll have some proper conversations when it’s time to do this. In such a crazy schedule right now, it is not the time to do this.”
Firpo made his 19th Championship start in Monday’s pulsating win over Sunderland. His attacking attributes have made him a key man in Farke’s team.
But it has emerged this week that Firpo has now changed agents and will be represented by leading Spanish group You First. Alvaro Torres published an Instagram post welcoming the player to his You First agency. Multiple reports in Spain have also suggested Firpo’s former club Real Betis are interested in re-signing him ahead of the summer transfer window.
Byram has been a dependable figure for the Whites this term, appearing 26 times in the Championship. Fourteen of Byram’s appearances have come as a starter.
As for Guilavogui, he has figured 13 times from off the bench since joining on a free transfer last October. The Frenchman has lined up in defence and in central midfield.
